OUR JUDGING PROCESS
Families Choice Nominations
The Central West Early Childhood Collaborative are committed to a fair, transparent and independent judging process.
Each nomination is assessed against criteria required for its award category by a panel of 3 judges with knowledge of the Early Childhood Sector.
Judges consider the nominee's achievements, impact, innovation, leadership, commitment to quality education and care and the examples provided within the nomination.
Only our judges liaison sees the nominations. Even the committee do not see the nominations - they get list of nominees and a list of finalists.
For individual educator awards, judges do not see the name of the educator, the location of the centre or the centre where the educator works.
For centre/service awards, judges do not see the name or location of the centre.
The families choice nominations are filtered and sorted to ensure every nomination is unique.
Two members of the committee each conduct their own count of nominations.
The educators for each category that have the most nominations, is the winner.

Frequently asked questions
Who are the judges?
The Judges are confidential. Only our Judges liaison knows who they are. Our judges do not know who the other judges are. All judges have a connection and/or knowledge of the early childhood sector.
Why do you announce nominees and not just finalists?
We believe that all educators should be acknowledged. If someone thinks you're deserving of a nomination, we think you should get the recognition for it.
We announce finalists to give those that might win an idea that they are in the running. Some categories can have over 50 nominees, and if all nominees buy tickets to the awards dinner, the actual winner may miss out.
How much does it cost?
There are no costs involved with the award nomination process. It's free to nominate.
I didn't receive my certificate.
Certificates are emailed to the centre on your nomination form. Please check with your director - ask them to check the spam folder too. If you still haven't got it, please email us at centralwestecawards@gmail.com with your full name, your centre and what award you were nominated for. Sending us an email means we can reply to your email to ensure you get your certificate.
I have a question about the Awards Dinner.
See our awards dinner page for more details here.
Why does it take so long to judge?
With so many nominations, it takes quite some time to go through them all thoroughly. These judges are also volunteering their time, so may have to fit judging in around their work and family schedules. We can appreciate that its nerve wracking to wait for the finalists to be announced, but know that the judges are being thorough.
